In the United States, Armed Forces Day is celebrated on the third Saturday in May. The day was created in 1949, and was a result of the consolidation of the military services in the Department of Defense. I have to be honest I forgot today was Armed Forces Day. I knew that Armed Forces Day was in May, but I always thought it was closer to my birthday, which I guess is not that far off. I guess I remember growing up my parents making a big deal of Armed Forces days.

I was very touched when I saw that the Texas Rangers had a ceremony for the Armed Forces Day. They had a Sargent that was on the video board from Iraq where he wished his sons a happy birthday, and the entire ball park sang happy birthday.
